SEPTEMBER 7, 2021

Hey Showfolks! Greetings from the road. I hope that this email is finding you all in good spirits! I wanted to touch base and tell you a little about our last meeting. Harry and Eva Mason hosted our meeting in Woodland, California where his show was set up. We all had a chance to catch up a little after the long hiatus. We had an amazing barbeque dinner and a general good time with a good turnout considering the time of year. It was really good to see everyone who attended and we are looking forward to seeing all of you at our November meeting! During the August meeting we discussed the loan that we gave to Pacific Coast Showmen's Association for the roof replacement, a motion to forgive the final $10,000 payment to Showfolks was put to a vote and passed with the majority in favor. PCSA President, Kelley Butler, was in attendance and expressed her gratitude to Showfolks for their generous contribution to the betterment of our sister club. The roof has been replaced and the club is making money again. The floors have been replaced and the club is being restored to its former glory.

Because of the pandemic, we were unable to raise much money in 2020, and as the shows begin to get on their feet again this year, it has been difficult. We are doing everything we can to raise money. Because of the low fundraising this year I spoke to Kelley Butler about using the PCSA clubhouse to host our Banquet and Ball. We decided to have both banquets at the same time in order to save money for both clubs.

The next meeting will be held in Lodi, CA at our clubhouse on Tuesday, November 2nd. There will be a board meeting at 5 P.M, dinner served at 6 P.M and a regular meeting at 7 P.M.

We hope you all can make it! Wishing you all the very best!

Gena Tuttle

2020-2021 Showfolk's President

JULY 21, 2021

Hello Show Folks!

There will be a meeting on Monday August 2, 2021. The meeting will begin at 1 pm and be held in

Woodland at the fairgrounds in an airconditioned building. Hopefully many of you will be available to attend.

Not much other news except that I am so grateful that many in our industry are back to work doing what we do best, entertaining the public and bringing happiness to so many! 2020 will be one for the books! Looking forward to a brighter future!

April 27, 2021

Hello,

I am so sorry to have to report that Ruth Bernice Jones, mother of our Recording Secretary and Past President, Linda Davisson passed away on April 18, 2021. Bernice (as most of us knew her) was 91 years old at the time of her death. Bernice was laid to rest on Monday April 26 in Lodi, California,. Our sincere condolences to Linda and her family.

On a better note, Past President of Show Folks and current President of P.C.S.A., Kelley Butler is recovering after a double mastectomy. Thank God they got all the cancer and at last report Kelley was doing well and no further treatment is expected! God is good! Our continued thoughts and prayers are with Kelley and the Butler family.

That's all the news I have to report right now as a lot of us gear up to go back out on the road, I pray for everyone to be safe, be careful and wear your masks as you bring back a little normalcy to our lives, and smiles, laughter and fun to so many!

If anyone has any news they want to share, please feel free to contact me at any time!

February 21, 2021

Hello Show Folks,

As the pandemic rages on we continue to stay vigilant in our efforts to stay healthy and negative for COVID-19. I recently recovered from the disease myself and it was no walk in the park for me, it was three weeks of fever, shallow breathing and body aches. I’m lucky that I survived it. Kelley handled it better than I did, she was sick three days.

I’m not sure when it will be safe to hold in person meetings again. Hopefully soon as I miss seeing all of you and breaking bread together.

On February 17th, we lost a showmen very close to my heart. My uncle, Billy Tuttle passed away at home in his sleep. Billy had been struggling with cancer for some time. He was 86 years old and had a very happy life, I don’t know yet when the services are. My aunt Shiela mentioned a virtual celebration of life. When I know more I will share that information.

We also lost Christine White whom some of you know as “Jazzy” She died in the hospital on February 6th, 2021.

John Taggart also passed away this year. I don’t know the details of his services either.

Please stay safe everyone as we try and navigate another closed season. We will get through this together, with strength and a good dose of optimism.

Until we meet again,

Gena Tuttle

2020-2021 President

Our own Sam Johnston! I can think of nobody who is more deserving. Sam has worked diligently to improve our industry in every aspect. He has been involved with many organizations championing our cause to make our lives safer and our industry prosper.

Thank you , Sam from all of us, and a big Congratulations!

Hello Show folks,

It is with heavy heart that I have to inform you that we have lost one of our own to the Covid - 19 virus that has taken so many and hurt our industry and changed our whole way of life!

Christine White aka "Jazzy" lost her fight with the virus and was taken from us on Sunday, February 7. Jazzy was a bright spot on the midway, always with a smile and a song!

She traveled and worked on Sean and Kelley's unit of Butler Amusements for many years and will surely be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and call her friend.

Our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

December 13, 2020

Some of you may have already gotten this email. I am forwarding it to all of my Show Folk's contacts. I hope everyone has a healthy, happy and safe Holiday. Merry Christmas to you all.

December 13, 2020

Hello Friends,

Hopefully this letter finds you all well during this time of disturbance. I am good, staying busy which is always good for the mind and soul. With Christmas approaching, I can’t help but think of those that are less fortunate than me. I have been blessed. My bills are paid, I have food on the table, and I do have toilet paper. However, there are those that do not have that, and they are just like me, hard-working and providers of their family.

I have been thinking for days of what I can do to make a difference. I have been impelled to help those families that just don’t fit in the “box”. I am not talking about our people, as we know we always take care of our own. I am feeling more impelled to help those types of families that have been working, possibly laid off in March, then back to work, then laid off again. These may be families that EDD has not or won’t pay in time before Christmas. Bills are behind and they have to make a choice of electricity or gifts under the tree for their kids. I want to bring relief to those families that may be in this type of situation.

I have decided on doing this myself. After contacting my local fire departments, The Salvation Army, as well as my own Church and obtaining families that have been nominated to receive help in this time of need, I found the local need was expediential. After trying to select a couple families I could directly impact, I then thought of my fellow Show folks that are always so giving. With your help, I firmly believe we can make a small difference to at least 15 families in the next 15 days. I would like your financial support in the motivation to pay it forward.

I will do all the homework, shopping, delivering and bookkeeping (I seem to have plenty of time these days). I would also like to assist these families not only in helping to put Christmas under their tree, but to see if they have exhausted all their resources with their late payments and benefits available to them. i.e. payment deferments etc. I don’t have a lot of money to offer but I have plenty of time, knowledge and resources. With all of our support we can make a small difference.

I also ask that if you may know of a family needing this assistance please forward their information to me. Maybe this is your hairdresser or nail lady, your bartender, gardener, hell..even your Direct TV guy. I have attached a simple pdf form that you can send back to me with that family’s information and needs. Please include how this person has impacted you and what their situation may be.

With all of you that know me with my heart and soul involved, this is going to be an enlightening and fun project. With a lot of hard work and dedication, the reward will be priceless. Anyone that donates to me will receive a financial statement at the end where funds were disbursed. Please join me in donating to this project. You may send through Pay-Pal or Facebook or you can contact me.

Thank you all for taking the time during your holiday season and reading this through. I am excited to see where this goes and continuing it in the years to come. Helping 15 families in 15 days with everyone’s help its possible maybe even more. May you all be blessed this holiday season and we will “see ya down the road”!

With Love,                                                                           1806 Lake Ridge St

Just a quick note to let you know what was discussed at the February 4th meeting for those who missed it.

A new 3rd vice president for Show Folks for next year was elected, and the winner is, Jill Butler!

There is a special meeting with our CPA on the 12th about our nonprofit status.

There was some discussion about loaning PCSA money to do some repairs on their roof.

Safety Seminar in Portland, February 17-20 was discussed.

Show Folks February 2019 Newsletter

Hello Show Folks!

Our annual Banquet and Ball weekend was a great success! I am told about 40 people attended the Memorial Service in Colma on Friday. The service was nice and the repairs were done, the cemetery looked great. Ron Quint got us an American Flag and the Show Folks flag were both flying high!

Past President's party was attended by several Past Presidents on Friday night at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln. Saturday night's big event was exciting, the entertainment was a lot of fun featuring a Contortionist and a Giant Ring Dancer. After the professional entertainment, the "Carny Kids" in attendance entertained us with their interpretation of the contortionist and dances of their own.

Past President Gordy Johnston and his beautiful wife, Tina won EVERYTHING!

All three prizes of the president's project tickets as well as the seller on all three! Then when the ticket for President Eva Mason's Special Project, the Carousel Horse was drawn, Tina's name was on it as well! They were both thrilled to the max, to say the least. But I must also add that they sold more tickets than anyone else in the whole club!

Then on Sunday morning the 2019 Officers were installed by Sam Johnston. Your 2019 Officers are:

President: Tom Eachus

First Vice President:  Gena Tuttle

Second Vice President: Matt  Payne

Third Vice President: Tina Johnston

Treasurer: Marta Quinn

Recording Secretary: Linda Davisson

Corresponding Secretaries: Sally McClain and Karla Kinsel

Good Luck to all of our 2019 Officers!

Our next meeting will be next Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Lodi Fairgrounds.

As always, Dinner is at 6 pm. General meeting at 7 pm.

Please bring a yummy dessert and a raffle prize or two.

Last meeting the capsule pot was won by Melissa Nicely who won a whopping $450.00. The pot starts again at $50 this next meeting. You must be present if your name is drawn. Congrats to Melissa !

As you all know we lost Past President and fellow showman, Rick Larson on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Services for Rick will be held at 1:00 pm on

Hello Show Folks!

Those of you that did not attend this past weekend’s festivities really missed a good one! The venue was beautiful as it was held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in the heart of San Francisco. The weather did not cooperate but those that attended made the best of it. Friday night was the Past President’s Party. We planned for 25-30 people but I think there were closer to 125 there! It was a huge turnout and everyone had a nice time honoring our Past Presidents.

Members enjoyed the City on Saturday. The Cable Cars passed right in front of the hotel and several people braved the rain and went down to Fisherman’s Wharf for the clam chowder, sourdough bread and fresh seafood available there.

Saturday night was the Annual Banquet and Ball honoring 2016 President Nicole Martinez. Sean Butler did a great job as emcee for the night. There was a nice band during dinner and after, dinner a DJ took over for the dancing. Dinner was steak or chicken and Cherries Jubilee for dessert. The event was black tie and everyone was “dressed to the nines”. The turnout was huge! The dance floor was busy all night. The highlight of the evening was the drawings for the project tickets. The pot this year was the largest I have seen for several years.

Vanessa Payne, Gena Perl and Linda Davison shared the first-place prize of $5,087,00 plus they shared the sellers prize of $500.00

Emma Rosales won second prize of $2,519.00 and First Vice-President, Eva Mason got the sellers prize of $300.00

Third prize and seller went to Greg and Andrea Jewell in the amounts of $2,015.00 and $200.00.

President Nicole Martinez did a special project. She sold 17 tickets at $1,000.00 each. Bobby Ellis was the big winner of $10,000.00! Congratulations to all the winners!

Remember you can’t win without having a ticket! Seller also wins! If you need tickets to purchase or to sell, feel free to contact us through the website, or contact President Tami Quint at: butlerbuny@aol.com or 209-261-3645.

Sunday, we had a yummy breakfast buffet followed by the Installation of our 2017 Officers. Past President, Lance Moyer swore in the 2017 Officers:

  • President: Tami Quint

  • First Vice President: Eva mason

  • Second Vice President: Tom Eachus

  • Third Vice President: Gena Tuttle

  • Treasurer" Marta Quinn

  • Recording Secretary: Linda Davisson

Several members then drove over to Colma for a Memorial. It was raining, the wind was blowing and it was storming! Several of us braved the storm and went out under the tents that were put up for the occasion. We had a quick prayer and got out of the weather. Surprising that it was one of the best turnouts we have had in the past few years! The weekend was a huge success and the turnout was one of the best we’ve had!

For several months, a special committee has been working on revising the Show Folk’s constitution and by-laws. The final draft can be read on the Show Folk’s website. Showfolksofamerica.com. Gail Johnston has put in a lot of hours of hard work typing the changes. We are asking that all members go on the website and read the by-laws and if anyone has any concerns or objections about anything, please attend the next meeting onJanuary 31, 2017 in Lodi to voice those concerns. We will be voting to approve these changes at that meeting.

Make a note on your calendars to attend the next meeting at which we will also assemble a nominating committee for the 2018 Third Vice-President. The meeting will be onJanuary 31, 2017 at the Lodi Festival Grounds. Board of Director’s meeting will start at 5 pm. Catered dinner at 6 pm and general meeting at 7 pm. Bring a dessert and raffle prize or two.

See you all there!
